Maritimes, Part 1

Lee and I signed up for a Tracks to Adventure tour of the Canadian Maritimes.  As I looked at maps of the US, I always wondered of life in the far northeast.  Well, you can drive a car to the Canadian Maritimes to explore this foreign land.  That is exactly what we did.  We drove our motor home from Texas to the Canadian Maritimes, including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador.  What a trip.

We left Ellsworth, Maine, August 13, 2010, heading to the Canadian border.  The US roads this far north are small and narrow.  This area of the US is remote with little population.  Also, trees grow like weeds in this part of the country.  It was green everywhere you looked.

This was an interesting sign along the road in the US.  Since we once lived in St. Croix, USVI, we learned that there is a St. Croix Island located off the coast of the US.  We did not make a stop there.

We crossed the Canadian border but neglected to take any pictures.  As we were crossing the border with the group of Tracks travelers, things were progressing well, with Canadian border guards waving RV'ers through.  That is until we can up to the officer.  He took one look at us and asked where we were from, and of course, we proudly stated Texas.  Big Mistake!!  He took our passports and pointed to the inspection lanes.  After a thorough inspection from two armed border agents, and one hour later, we were on our way.  I thought it best not to take pictures of armed guards going through our rig.

We did notice a different type of stop sign on the Canadian highways.  Strange, but very instructional.  Very little left to your imagination.

We drove on towards St John's, New Brunswick.  Our goal was to visit the famous reversing falls.  Well, not quite waterfalls, but the water definitely did flow in reverse.  I found this YouTube video that explains about the city of Saint John's and Reversing Falls.

Also, at the Reversing Falls site, a vendor offers "Sky rides", with towers used to connect rope lines that individuals can ride on.  We did not ride it.  Lee thought it was a little high off the ground for her.

As we traveled out of Saint John's, the roads resembled any US city.  Except, all speed limits were posted in kilometers.

This is one of those photos that proves we were there.  This is outside of a restaurant located on the Reversing Falls site.  Great view and food!
